The Magic

Blooming Belle

It was time for a nice overload of makeup, all applied for the glory of an amazing look meant for the camera. It’s all about beautiful and magically enchanting shades of blooming orchids.

When I shot my romantic look with Ava, at the beginning of February, I decided to re-indulge my obsession for colours. It’s hard to describe, but it happened this way: a friend of mine lent me dark brown bangs. Then, I remembered the amazing polka-dotted designs of Veronique Miljkovitch for SS2015, and before I knew it, I had visions of Fifties Pop and Pin-Up Girls meets Asia. Of orchids with the most beautifully vivid and rich colour contrasts. It’s a trend that is on it’s way… If you take a look at the bloom-coloured lipsticks by Giambatista Valli for M.A.C. that were released as a teaser on the web, it’s all about a new kind of sophistication.

The first look The polka-dotted top needed OCC Cosmetics Lip Tar in Hoochie, it looks odd in the tube but it’s a great cool pink, almost lavender with amazing pigmentation. For the eyes I used a cream pigment from Illamasqua in Bedaub, I added a whisper of green from the NARS eyeshadow duo in Mad Mad World. If you want to pull off the eye look in real life, I would only use a pale pastel colour. I drew the tiniest liner to enhance the lashes, without going too Fifties, and I decided to leave the brows au naturale (which were hidden by the bangs).

The second look I put a base of M.A.C. Paint Pot in Painterly on the eyelids and  I blended a Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in Mauve, and the Sephora Collection eyeshadow in Purple Stilettos. For the lipstick I would suggest Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited in Orange, an exclusive shade for spring that is available through their website for the moment, or Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist in #4o.

The third look This one was totally improvised. I dusted Ardency Inn shadow in Tangerine (available at Sephora exclusively) on the outer corners and followed with a shimmering yellow from Make Up for Ever Artist Shadow in S404. The lips are courtesy of NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Volga.

I kept  the face fresh with NARS Creamy Concealer blended with Clinique DDML+ and powdered with Dior Nude powder/foundation compact for a velvet finish that still had a glow.
