Just Be a Star (No Matter What Size)

Meet Stephany, future bombshell! It was time to put on the blog my first plus size model, or should I say, normal size. And she was a dream to photograph! I finally could do some proper instaglam makeup. It was new territory, but you don’t learn anything by doing the same thing over and over.

Stephany is a new face that was signed to Dulcedo Models. I usually style my models, but finding plus size clothing that looks good is notoriously hard to come by. I also wanted her to bring clothes that reflected her personality. She explained how it’s even harder because of the sizing inconsistencies from brand to brand. We chose this peach top and a racy jumpsuit for her outfits, both by Forever XXI, the bra is by Additionelle x Ashley Graham. We wanted to turn up the heat. After all, when you’re curvy, you can’t hide it, so you have to flaunt it! Which is why glamour is not going anywhere. As long as there are women with this kind of femininity walking the earth, glam vibes will survive, no matter how much fashion tries to play off of it, or against it.

It was great working with Stephany, her acting background came in handy to work the fine line between sexy and powerful, without falling into cheese. I accessorized with some hoop earring by H&M and a rhinestone necklace from Ardène from my personal styling stash. I also threw in some supermodel 90s makeup with Stephany’s black jumpsuit. I just couldn’t resist doing the neutral smoky! I’m a bit tired of seeing the red transition color EVERYWHERE… sorry had a little rebellious moment. I hope you enjoy her star power. I was totally converted to shooting more models that are not “model size”.

The first image of this article, was shot at the very end, Stephany wanted a picture with big hair, she wanted to see herself powerful and I teased her hair and she gave me a beautiful feeling of strength. It was wonderful co-creating this image, probably the strongest and most authentic of the shoot.

The other thing that is great, is that she came in Monday the 24th of July, and the shoot went so well, and there was so little editing to do because of her amazing skin, that the picture were up at midnight the same day. Talk about two pros!

For the makeup

I got out my Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation, which I had hardly used. I applied it properly with a Beauty Blender for that “flawless finish”. For under eye concealer, I used NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard and did the triangle, but in a smaller region. I set both with NARS Translucent Powder.

For bronzer I used DiorSkin Nude Air Bronzer in shade 002—which is lovely. I thought the coulour looked amazing on Stepahny’s deeper skintone. I applied it like a youtube beauty guru, cheeks, hairline and some on the nose. For contour, I used the deeper shade of the Kat Von D Shade & Light palette to deepen the hollow of the cheeks and chin. On eyebrows, I used Giorgio Armani Eye & Brow Maestro in Black.

First look: On eyes I used the CoverGirl Truenaked palette in Goldens. M.A.C. Eye pencil in Orpheus and Teddy. Dior Iconic Overcurl Waterproof mascara in black. On lips, I used two lip liners to keep it matte without it being too matte! Elizabeth Arden lip pencil in Naturel 06 all over, and M.A.C. Lip liner in Chestnut to contour the lips.

Second Look, I used a warm black to smoke out the outside of the eye, I mixed the burgundy and the black shade of the Soul palette by Stila. Over the lips the previous lip liner I applied the NARS Velvet lip pencil in Belle de Jour.
