Flower Power

I’m still on my roll of colorful spring ideas . I’m feeling that color is the future. And when I found this lovely jacket at a local flea market, I had to “make a look” for the blog.

Being at heart a fashion addict, I’ve always got my eye on the runway. I was a clotheshorse, way before I fell into makeup and beauty. But now that I look back, I realize it was always about the “look”. Even when models go down the runway, they are in character, sometimes the hair and makeup is very natural, but it’s still a character.

I’ve been working with Rose over the last week and a half on a beauty editorial. But I also had an idea for a fashion look. I had a vision of her in a cowgirl look. But between work, and working on makeup ideas for that beauty editorial, I had no time to go looking for a guitar and cowboy hat. Instead, I went hunting at my local thrift shop for a cowboy shirt. When I’m looking for clothes, I always try to keep an open mind, in case I find something better. And I stumbled on this amazing vest, part Asian, part Western. There was no label and it was probably homemade by someone very talented.

I decided to get inspired by the Fall-Winter 2018 Miu Miu show. You can see the runway here Vogue.com/Runway “The look” was a reference to a sixties girl, with bouffant hair and black liner, some Brigitte Bardot, some Kate Moss and of course, Amy Winehouse. I’m not the best hairstylist, so I made my homemade bouffant, by stuffing a tan coloured hose sock and teasing the hair around it. I didn’t get it very high…I should have called on a pro… but sometimes, it’s just me and me.

A good friend of mine came back from India, and she brought me an amazing Kajal by Himalaya Herbals and it’s a great black. I used it around Rose’s eyes. The tip is pretty big, so where I wanted a finer line, I used a brush. It’s perfectly greasy and doesn’t move too much. For the transition color I decided to go bold and I used the Natasha Denona Tropic palette; blending “Sahara” in the inner crease and “Fake Tan” on the outer part of the eye to give it a pop of  colour.
