Miss pageants are sort of a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, I love the idea of celebrating beauty of different countries. On the other hand, they celebrate a certain standard of beauty, which is evolving, but it’s still not as inclusive as it should be. I wanted to share the creative process of working with Miss World Mexico when she came to Canada!

It had to happen sooner or later, and it…. happened suddenly. I was going home, with nothing particular to do that week, and Cesar, my main squeeze photographer, texted me: “Do you want to shoot Carmen Carrera tomorrow evening?”-Hell yeah! That’s life! Things happen out of the blue. I barely had 24h to prepare for my first celebrity photoshoot!
It’s always a great pleasure to get to do makeup and a photo-session on a woman I find very interesting and captivating (by my own standards). And yes there is something more to beauty than an Instagram face.
I like me a lip. A nice, showy lip. Eye makeup can fade and become muddy in hot summer weather, but lips can easily be made back after a margarita, or two, or a kiss, or two.
It was time for a nice overload of makeup, all applied for the glory of an amazing look meant for the camera. It’s all about beautiful and magically enchanting shades of blooming orchids. Continue reading
